The best substack to read on Christmas Eve morning. Loved revisiting the Stars in the House. Happy memories of a strange time. Loved your stories and purple dog and the recipe and the videos. Thanks so much for sharing. See you in March. Yippee. Happy Christmas to you,Dan,Nicholas and Oliver. ❤️❤️🎅🎅❤️🎅
Beautiful, Liz!! How lucky you and Ann are to have grown up with such an amazing family! We are all enriched by the joy and the heart and the music that you continue to create! Wishing you and Dan and Nicholas a sweet and peaceful Christmas filled with grace.
I posted on the YouTube link to STARZ in the house but this really was wonderful today. I'm dealing with a post CHRISTMAS blues slump and this brought me right back. Jason and my traditions are many but one of our favorites is our opening night circle song - God Bless My Family - where a cast of 80 people join and listen to you two, sometimes for the first time. Always left in tears. Our personal favorite tradition is coming up and that is the drive to visit our friends in Connecticut. And then there's food. Since his childhood Jason's mother or grandmother made these delectable sausage ball biscuits… Now Vegan-ized by chef Jason.
Thank you again. I am now rambling. But much love during this holiday season and best wishes for a Happy New Year. We will all need each other.
William, I'm so glad this issue and our SITH video cheered you up! I'm so touched by your God Bless My Family tradition- I will be sure to let Ann know! Have a wonderful trip to CT! Happy New Year!
Oh, my sister, this is an especially wonderful issue- it brought tears to my eyes! I savored every bit of it as I sipped my first coffee. We really like our Christmas traditions, don't we? And glad Purple Dog is forever in front!
Merry Christmas Eve to you, Dan, Nicholas, and Oliver! We send you all our love!
P.S. Maybe one of these days, I can write a song about all this and call it "Christmas the Calla-way!"

Hi Liz, and Merry Christmas to you, Dan, Nicholas, and Oliver!
What a great issue this was. Loved seeing the video of you and Ann reading the book together. And your single is just so beautiful!
The video of Patti LaBelle is a hoot. And yes, she is the consummate pro and made the best of a precarious situation. Interesting about the song she was singing. I've always thought it should have more than one verse. I'm guessing she was singing some extra verses for this event and didn't remember them. And really, where were those singers??? Getting a hug from President Clinton was at least a nice consolation!
Again, my best to you and hope to see you again in the New Year! Blessings to all.
Merry Christmas Liz! Thinking of Dear Jim Bates this holiday season, from our days at Marriott’s Great America, Santa Clara. What a wonderful man and talent. May he rest in peace. Warmly, Allen Chinn
My sister just called excited at the news that she received your substack. She hasn't received received it before. We are getting organized to head to the Deerpath Inn in Lake Forest.
It has turned into quite a crowd meeting there. Given our history, I hope they don't have to involve the Lake Forest police when we celebrate at the bar.
Thank you and Ann for your kindness in communicating with your fans.
Merry Christmas! My dad’s birthday was on Christmas Eve. We always got up to give him presents in bed. He would jokingly tell Mama, “Get the kids up to give me my presents.
I grew up singing in choirs at church, high school and college. It was a tradition for me to sing at our church, the Rhonda Pollay version with our choirs. I call it the bluesy version.
After church, we watched White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Scrooge (A Christmas Carol), the version with Albert Finney. We opened our presents one by one on Xmas morning.
When I was a kid, I would get up at around two or so to see in the living room what Santa brought us.
Love you Liz and Ann. I loved hearing you in Raleigh, NC and meeting you. Happy Holidays!
