It’s never too late for dreams to come true.
This is a historic day for my sister, Ann- her first album of all original songs is out! And I couldn’t be prouder.
Over the years, Ann has written songs for Barbra Streisand, the theme for The Nanny, and sprinkled original songs on her many records. But it has always been at the top of her bucket list to make an album that was all hers. Today, at the age of 65, her lifelong dream has come true. And it’s glorious.
Finding Beauty: Originals, Volume 1 includes collaborations with Melissa Manchester, Alan Bergman, and Amanda McBroom, and duets with Melissa, Tierney Sutton, Kurt Elling, and…me.
WHEREVER YOU ARE Ann Hampton Callaway & Liz Callaway
Here’s what Ann wrote about the song in her liner notes.
You can purchase CDs of Finding Beauty: Originals, Volume 1 on Amazon, and download and stream it on all digital platforms. Even if you don’t have a CD player, it’s worth getting the CD so you can read the booklet with Ann’s stories about each song.
OMG, Ann just texted me- her album has only been out 12 hours, and it’s already #5 on the Apple/iTunes Jazz chart!
Behind the Scenes
I’ve been hard at work putting together my new Stephen Schwartz concert for Cork, Ireland. I have had the great pleasure of working (and playing tennis) with Stephen for many years, and I’m thrilled for this opportunity to pay tribute to him. I’ll be singing 22 songs in this concert. (Gulp!) It’s been a little challenging rehearsing because my pianist for the concert, the wonderful David Hayes, lives in Ireland! Thank goodness for WhatsApp and PianoTrax.com.
From the Vault
In 1981, I made my Off-Broadway debut in a production of Godspell at Equity Library Theatre. The cast included Scott Bakula as Jesus and my soon-to-be best buddy Jason Graae as Herb. I played Joanne and sang “Bless the Lord.” I’ll be singing it in my concert with students from the Cork School of Music.
FUN FACT: I was actually cast in Godspell THE DAY AFTER I was cast in my first Broadway show, Merrily We Roll Along- it was a very good 24 hours!
Where in the World is Liz?
I’m off to Ireland next week, with a quick stop in London to help with jet lag. Then concerts in California, Virginia, Indiana, Madrid, (not a typo) Texas, Florida, Arizona, and NYC. In other words-wheeeee!

When You’ve Got Friends Like Mine
John Mavroudis is an artist in San Francisco- I first discovered his work on Instagram when I saw the 2019 Time Magazine cover with his hand-drawn list of U.S. cities that had suffered the 253 mass shootings that year. I was also taken by his typographic portraits of composers, including Bob Dylan and Brian Wilson. I wrote him a “fan message” and asked if he ever considered doing a portrait of Stephen Sondheim. It turns out his sister Christine is a big Sondheim fan and had suggested the same thing. We met in person last fall when I did my Sondheim show in San Francisco and I offered to be a resource for him if he needed any guidance or song suggestions. Well, he’s done it! John has created an incredible typographic portrait of Sondheim that includes his shows, his awards, and 110 of his greatest songs. John created a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the printing, which ends on Oct 2. You can check it out here.
That’s it for the second issue of Between Flights. It’s been fun putting this together, but now I must get back to learning my lyrics!
Thank you for reading (and listening.)
Wishing you a great weekend.
XOXO Liz
PS I’d love to hear from you in the comments. Any recommendations for my trip to Cork? Or San Francisco restaurant suggestions for my anniversary? Or, please just say hi.
What a beautiful share about the CD and our duet!!! Thank you so much! 🩷🩷🩷
