If something makes you scared, you should do it.Â
Hello Friends.
Welcome to my new Substack newsletter, Between Flights. I’ve been reading a lot of authors, artists, and chefs on Substack and have decided to join in the fun. This newsletter will be a work in progress, but I plan on including a song in each post, some behind-the-scenes fun, links to what I’ve been reading (and cooking), and my concert schedule.
Let’s Start Off With a Song
Here’s a song I’m learning for a concert I’m doing next month in Ireland. I don’t usually practice music in front of my bookcase, but I thought you might enjoy a peek at my cookbook collection. 😀
Behind the Scenes
I’ve been singing the National Anthem for my beloved NY Mets since 1984. And friends, it never gets easier. In addition to the pressure of singing for 30,000 people, there is a 2-second delay, which makes it rather challenging to sing, especially when you have cameras in your face. When I sang the anthem last month, my son Nicholas filmed it behind home plate so you can hear the delay. (If you look closely, you’ll see me lightly tapping my right leg to keep time.) I had a nice cold beer after this one.

When You’ve Got Friends Like Mine
Congrats to my high school classmate and great friend, Jeff Harnar, on the release of his fantastic album A Collective Cy: Jeff Harnar Sings Cy Coleman. The album has wonderful arrangements by Alex Rybeck and includes a duet with yours truly.
And, congrats to my friend, Doug Cohen, on his new book about the making of his musical "No Way to Treat a Lady." (I did the Off-Broadway production in 1987.) I just started How to Survive a Killer Musical, but it's soooooo good.
Coming Attractions
In upcoming issues, expect songs, videos, and photos from the vault — I have some doozies! — and inspiring reads, recipes, and moments at home. Plus, cute photos of my cat, Oliver.
That’s all for now. I hope you have enjoyed my first go at Between Flights. If you have, please share! My goal with this newsletter is to have some fun and bring a little joy into your inbox.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. Have any ideas for my newsletter or song suggestions? Or just say hi!
Have a great weekend.
XOXO Liz
Love this! Congrats on a great premiere!
Love love love that you are on Substack. I guess I’ll stay.
